NYU ALUMNI WORKSHOP:
Exercising Leadership: Elevating Team Performance

Intended for: People at all levels of organizations from entry to senior executive interested in how distributed leadership can be exercised at all levels of organizations in order to innovate, change and elevate general team performance.

Date: POSTPONED - April 22, 2020, 6-7:30PM. Rescheduled date TBD.

Location: NYU Wasserman Center, 133 East 13th St, Second Floor, New York, NY

This interactive workshop will examine some of the most common leadership challenges that managers at all levels face.  We will explore and provide insight into questions such as: What does is take to motivate a team effectively?  How can you create an environment where creativity and effective collaboration are the norm?  How do you bring about needed change despite organizational resistance?

Psychotherapist and Adaptive Leadership instructor Erik Yazdani will lead you in a workshop rooted in individual and organizational psychology as well as the Adaptive Leadership model developed by Harvard leadership theorist Ronald Heifetz.  The workshop will foster group discussion of shared challenges in the workplace and provide insights and follow-up action planning.  Specific topics we'll cover include the following:

- Understanding and effectively framing the leadership challenges you're facing in your organization (distinguishing 'technical' from 'adaptive' challenges)

- Why do people and organizations resist needed change and what to do about it

- How to build 'adaptive capacity' across your teams or organizations to facilitate more nimble, creative and collaborative teams

- How organizational/systemic pressures manifest as pressures on you personally; how to distinguish what you can and can't take responsibility for and how to distribute work effectively

- How to identify the problems that your team is avoiding by diagnosing your organizational system

- Creating an action plan for rethinking your leadership strategy, objectives and near-term tasks
